Glorified Weeds

So I was mowing the lawn today and I had this thought pop into my head like a weed sprouting in your grandmother's favorite garden.

If grass is just a glorified weed in the minds of westerners, and predominately mid-westerners, why then do we take special care of only that which is pleasing in our sight?
The thought made me think of the people of the world? Why is it that we seem to only want to take care of the people that can help the church? People that can donate their time, their thoughts, their prayers, or their money?

When does it become less for the church to worry about making sure that everything that they do (programs, events, service) gains recognition for the church, or brings more people to service, or attracts more families to the church?

Sure, I like taking care of the lawn and making it look as green and groomed as possible. But why is it that I only want Kentucky Blue or Tennessee Wide blade? or whatever?

May my ministry be one that grooms all kinds of grasses, Blue or Yellow, Green or Burnt. And may we, as the Church, come to know what it is to maintain a messy lawn that allows for the most full yard with the most life and the best variety.
