Thursday Thoughts

I couldn't come up with a more creative title so I just gave it a title and said go. I have been toying around with the latest BlackBerry Twitter applications that are available to me as a BB user. I have also been enjoying the most recent addition to my PC, TweetDeck. This whole Twitter phenomenon sweeping the nation is beginning to be recognized on the national media. Just today, the TV was on in my room and Ellen DeGeneres was talking about how she started yesterday with 36 followers and by the time of her taping of today's show, she had over 360,000 followers. IN ONE DAY! It is taking the country by storm! I even have some followers in England! And I'm just some below average college student! But there is something bigger than just a social trend going on here, I believe.

So much of our lives are based on how we communicate and connect with the people around us. Especially in the generations that I am part of and each younger generation following mine. We are beginning to see how older generations are trying to take part in these connectivity trends/phenomenons. So, why is it that a communication tool such as Twitter or Facebook are so prominent in the lives of my generation and beyond? Why is it that there is such a discussion from older generations on whether or not they should take part in this growing social identity, which is our online identities?

These are some of the questions that are running around in my head. Even as I type this, I have no idea who all will read it (obviously I have some idea of who I think might read it). And yet, I continue to pour my thoughts and some of my most in-depth thinking into a blog that is accessible by anyone on the face of this planet. And yet, we are an individualistic society.

These are some random thoughts running through my head, AMONGST many others, however, all of these cannot be shared at this present moment.

I have committed, however, to trying to update every night. I think that this blog needs to become something of an extrovert's venting ground where I can hash out with myself, and others as they see fit, issues and discussions that I am having with people and with myself in my walk as a follower of Christ. I will soon have an update on my view of the effectiveness of social connectors like Facebook and Twitter. Also, forthcoming, my recent comings and goings in the job hunt.

Yep, I think that those two topics will be very much plenty to chew on and to digest as I begin to discover who I truly am in Christ, and where he wants me to be.
